- 1st attempt: April 14th 1879: Alexander Soloviev, former school teacher, attempted to kill Alexander
- People’s will favored terrorism and planned to assassinate the tsar
- 2 attempt: andrei Zhelyabov and Sophia Perovskaya used nitroglycerine to destroy the Tsar's train, but they miscalculated and blew up a different train 3 attempt: they also tried to blow up the Kamenny Bridge in St.Petersburg as the Tsar was passing over, but it was unsuccessful
- 4 attempt: Stefan Khalturin ( a carpenter who managed to find work in the Winter Palace) each day concealed dynamite into his bedding. On February 17th 1880, he constructed a mine in the basement under the dining room. That night dinner wa delayed and Stefan blew up and empty dining room
- Ohkrana discovered that there was a plot led by Andrei Zhelvabov to kill the Tsar; he was arrested but released no information
- March 1st 1881, Alexander’s carriage was bombed while from Michaelovsky Palace to Winter Palace
- Sophia Perovskya signaled Nikolai Rysakov and Timofei Mikhailov to throw their bombs: The first bomb landed among the Cossack and the Tsar was uninjured but when he got out to check the condition of the injured men, Ignatei Grinevitski threw his bomb which killed the Tsar instantly
- Alexander the III was immediately thrust into power
