- constituent assembly was meant to be instituted eventually to rule

- called for communist takeover
- Lenin's policy: "Peace, Bread, and Land"
- wanted Soviet to not cooperate with Provisional Government
- Lenin reorganized Bolshevik party
- Soldiers and sailors at Kronstadt held demonstrations
- Provisional Government crushed revolt
- Kornilov tried to overthrow the government, made Provisional Government lose support
- Trotsky elected chairman of Petrograd Soviet
- Lenin came, held secret committee, they decided to start a revolution
- Military Revolutionary Committee set up
- made it seem like they were defending against Germany, but really were organizing revolution
- Trotsky ordered coup, most buildings in Petrograd were seized, Bosheviks took control of the capital
- Russia lost Ukraine, Polish territory, Baltic territory, and Finland
- Lenin believed the treaty would not last because he thought the revolution would spread to Germany
- Would last until 1921

- Lenin stops War Communism, partly because of mutiny at Kronstadt Naval Base
- This and subsequent strokes weakened Lenin, power struggle started
- 1923, Lenin could no longer speak
